That's a troll job at it's finest haha.

And would you expect a guy who has never played an NHL game to be anything else?

No disgrace. He has not played a game in the NHL yet. I have no doubt there will be lots of injuries and he will have his chance to shine .

Based on the title, I thought there would be a comparison here to Sundin.

Didn't think Garth was trolling or hating on Matthews. One of his better blogs.

Seems Matthews is taking it well, just like he seems to take every situation he is in well. He seems to be a very mature kid and he knows how to conduct himself to avoid controversy and bad publicity. These are excellent qualities considering he's going to be a Leaf soon - what with all the douchey media types (in T.O. or focusing on the Leafs) ready to make mountains out of molehills when given any ammunition to work with.

Doesn't seem too surprising he's the 13th forward at this point. He's the only guy that hasn't played in the NHL yet, so he'll have to prove he deserves the ice time.

The coach has even said they'll likely change the lines around a little once they figure out who works well together, so he still may end up with a bigger role as time goes on.

On another note, as a Leaf fan it's cool to see Rielly playing on the first pairing with Ekblad! Hope they do well together.

grotesque amount of skill on a 5 man unit

Grotesque? Garf kinda underestimating the quality of defense on the other WC squads.

It's a perfect cover for a guy setting up a network of meth labs in the GTA. Think about it.

Tortorella should coach hockey, and focus on delivering a medal for his country. Otherwise, shut up.

Kaepernick is making a statement and that seems to be ok with a lot of people in this country why can't Torts?

This quote coming from Tortarella, shows how Intellectually Absent he is and has been, considering the emotional tirades he's created as the most egotistical, thin skinned coach in Hockey history.

His comments only demonstrate how limited and closed minded he truly is.

The most disappointing aspect to this story is how little actual content Garth supplied. We all know Garth isn't known for his literary genius, but don't dive in a pool when you can't swim!

To include Torts evolving stance on our men & women fighting abroad for the Corporate Masters is simple minded.

The second game in San Diego had a "Salute" to our Armed Forces, Kapernick stood and showed tremendous support for our troops. If Garth had any semblance of comprehension on this issue he would have at least mentioned this telling fact. But instead, used the horrendous deaths of so many Americans as "Garth Click Bait"

To say this is your worst post ever, means a lot when I'm referring to Garth.

A better question about Torts is "why is he coaching Team USA?"

is the state of American hockey that bad that they had to pull this guy from the recycle bin? Ironic he would spout off about someone else's freedom of expression when he has made a career of using his own freedom to embarrass himself and pretty much every team he has coached...

Out of all of this crap what I'm most curious about is what the NHL/NBA/NFL/MLB contracts stipulate about political actions of the athletes. To me that ultimately decides whether these players are in the right/wrong for making political statements while using these organizations as their platform.

Do the contracts stipulate whether athletes can/cannot use company time to push their own political agendas? Everyone wants to scream about constitutional rights but many fail to realize that a lot of those arguments might not apply when you are on company time (depending on contract probably).

If these organizations are currently allowing players to use them as a platform to push their personal political agendas/opinions then I would expect in future contracts for these issues to be better clarified.
